Third place: “Beach Beauty”
by Sara Gil of Amphitheater High School.
Walking near the beach in San Diego, Gil said the succulent “got my attention,” and she decided to take the picture. She had the upper hand, since her photography instructor at Amphi lent her a Canon EOS-Rebel digital camera and a macro (close-up) lens. It’s her first contest award outside of school. She plans to continue photography as a hobby “for a long time.” Jeff Kida of Arizona Highways said, “She chose a subject that has beautifully contrasting colors and used diffused light, allowing her subject to be the center of attention, which is always a good thing in macro photography.”
