Two Mexican women were arrested in separate incidents this week when border of officers in Nogales said they tried to smuggle nearly $62,000 combined.

In the first incident, a 26-year-old woman from the state of Sinaloa was walking into Mexico from Arizona when she was pull aside for a search when it appeared she was hiding something under her clothes. Officers found nearly $50,000 on the woman — $20,000 under her clothes, $13,400 in her shoes, $5,600 in pair of pants she was carrying and $10,979 in her purse, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Two hours later a 43-year-old woman from Nogales, Sonora was found with $11,361 in her purse. She told border officers the money was from the sale of narcotics and that she had been paid to take the money into Mexico.

The money in each case was seized and the women were arrested on suspicion of smuggling bulk cash.
