According to the IRS website, you can generally expect to get your refund in less than 21 calendar days after they receive your tax return.

Once your return has been accepted by the IRS, you can check on the status of your refund by going to https://sa1.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jsp

You'll need to provide your Social Security number, filing status (single, married filing joint return, etc.), and the exact whole dollar amount of your expected refund.

If you e-filed, you should wait 72 hours before checking. If you filed a paper return, the IRS asks that you wait three to four weeks.

There’s no need to call unless Where’s My Refund? tells you to do so.

Where’s My Refund? is updated every 24 hours — usually overnight — and the IRS urges filers to check no more than once a day. The best time to check is evenings and weekends.

For Arizona filers, expect your refund within 10 days of the date you file — assuming you e-file and choose direct deposit.

If you file a paper return, expect your refund within 12 weeks of the date you filed. Refund status can be obtained by calling 1-800-352-4090. Keep your tax information handy when you call. Or, you can use the “Where’s My Refund” link at www.aztaxes.gov to check the status of your refund.
