APS chief Robinson dies after battle with cancer
PHOENIX - Donald Robinson, president and chief operating officer of the state's largest electric utility, Arizona Public Service, has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 59.
Construction worker killed at Bagdad mine
BAGDAD - A construction worker has been killed in an accident at a copper mine about 100 miles northwest of Phoenix.
Authorities say Alvin Thomas, 30, of Many Farms was part of a crew fitting a row of large pipes together on Thursday when one of the pipes came loose and struck him in the head. The pipe weighed more than 5,000 pounds.
Thomas was a contract worker with the Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold Mine in Bagdad.
The Arizona State Mine Inspector's Office will investigate.

State's first bank failure of the year is recorded
Gold Canyon Bank was closed Friday by regulators in the first Arizona bank failure of the year.
The two branches of Gold Canyon, in Gold Canyon and Peoria, will open Monday as branches of First Scottsdale Bank, which will assume all their deposits and operate them under the Gold Canyon name, said the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
As of Dec. 31, Gold Canyon Bank had approximately $45.2 million in total assets and $44.2 million in total deposits.
