Asarco has allocated $60 million for expansion of the concentrator at its Mission Mine south of Tucson, its parent company Grupo Mexico said this week in its fourth-quarter earnings report.

The project, expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2013, will expand the annual production capacity of the concentrator from 66,000 tons to 77,500 tons.

“In addition, studies have begun for the refurbishment and reopening of the molybdenum plant at Mission,” the report says. “The plant will have a production capacity of 2,600 tons of molybdenum, represents an investment of $5 million” and is expected to start operations in the first quarter of 2013.
