Maker House launches $75K crowdfunding drive

Maker House, a collaborative artisans workspace opening in downtown Tucson in September, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on RocketHub to raise $75,000 for furnishings and equipment.

With crowdfunding, projects or ventures are funded by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet.

Under development by Artfire.com in the historic Bates Mansion, Maker House is a artisan-focused workspace with conference and co-working spaces, an array of planned classes, a planned coffee bar and a courtyard arts venue.

Another collaborative workspace preparing to open downtown, Xerocraft Hackerspace, launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter on July 13 and reached its fundraising goal of $3,000 on Tuesday.
