A Candlewood Suites hotel has opened at 1995 W. River Road, near La Cholla Boulevard.
Its location is directly between the Tucson and Foothills malls, and near corporate offices and Northwest Medical Center.
“We are unique because we’re in a development that is mixed-use, with homes and offices,” said Jason Tharp, vice president for Candlewood Suites Tucson.
The new 49,000-square-foot extended-stay hotel has 89 suites in its four-story building. The hotel is designed for travelers who plan to stay a while, with kitchens, barbecue grills, on-site laundry facilities and a business center.
This is Tucson’s first Candlewood Suites, a franchise of InterContinental Hotels Group, which is also affiliated with the Holiday Inn brand.
The $7 million project included hiring local architects from GDA Architects to design the hotel and local labor to build it, Tharp said.
Candlewood Suites hired 16 local employees, 15 of them full-time.
