Just in time for returning University of Arizona students, a 24-hour CVS Pharmacy opened Sunday at Main Gate Square.

The store, at 825 E. University Blvd., is the first pharmacy to open in the area. The 12,000-square-foot store went into an existing building that previously housed burger joint Johnny Rockets.

The store doesn’t look like a typical CVS. The interior was remodeled, but CVS agreed to keep the look of the exterior similar to the surrounding area, said Jane McCollum, general manager of the Marshall Foundation, which owns Main Gate Square. It has the feel of a neighborhood drugstore, with historical University of Arizona photos in the windows, rather than the typical CVS graphics.

The pharmacy generated about 20 jobs in Tucson, CVS spokesman Michael DeAngelis said.
