Drunken brawls last year have gotten the Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen into trouble with a state agency.

The Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control issued a $3,000 fine to the restaurant at the Foothills Mall, 7265 N. La Cholla Blvd., for selling liquor to intoxicated patrons and for not kicking them out.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department complained to the liquor department about a series of five violent fights at the restaurant and its parking lot last year, including one in which an officer was injured and one that involved up to 20 people fighting in the parking lot, according to a liquor department investigator’s report.

Sheriff’s Office records show 18 calls for service to the restaurant since January 2013. Five were called in as fights in progress. The most recent calls for service were in March 2014.

“The above event was a one time event and we have done everything in our power since to avoid problems,” Lodge Sasquatch manager Matt Veronica said in an email.

The restaurant closes at midnight and serves food until closing, too, he said.
