Gas prices slipped this week nationally and in Arizona, though the nation reached a costly milestone earlier this week.

On Tuesday, the national average price of gasoline was higher than $3 for the 1,000th consecutive day for the first time on record, according to AAA Arizona. Arizona is expected to reach the same milestone in late October.

But the nationwide average price for regular gas on Thursday was $3.49 per gallon, down nearly 6 cents in a week.

The statewide average gas price in Arizona was $3.39 per gallon of regular on Thursday, down a penny from last week.

Tucson continues to have the lowest average gas price among the Arizona metro areas AAA surveys, declining less than a cent in a week to $3.29 per gallon on Thursday.
