Tax filing deadline is less than a month away. So bring your tax questions to Internal Revenue Service agents in a live online chat on StarNet, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Go to http://live.azstarnet.com to take part.
Questions could be as simple as "I made X amount, do I need to file a tax return?" or "Do I qualify for the earned income tax credit for low- to moderate-income workers?"
Or they could be as complex as capitalizing vs. expensing, employment tax issues, inheritance issues, pension fund issues or limited liability corporation tax questions, notes IRS spokesman Bill Brunson, giving just some examples.
Agents participating in the chat will be:
• Ted Spencer, who has been with the IRS 24 years. He is the field exam group manager in Tucson and was previously a revenue agent in Salt Lake City and Los Angeles.
• Olivia Wells, who began her career with the IRS in 2008 as a revenue agent in the Small Business/Self Employed Division. She previously worked as an accountant at a variety of Tucson-based businesses.
• Barbara J. Ericks, CPA, has been with the IRS since 2009. She previously worked at public accounting firms Ernst & Young and Clifton Gunderson, and was also affiliated with Griffin Valuation Group.
• Hildegard A. Howard, who has been with the IRS for 4.5 years, first in the Wage & Investment Division as an individual taxpayer advisory specialist, and now as a revenue agent in the Small Business/Self Employed Division. She previously was in the U.S. Army.
Also taking part will be spokesman Brunson, who has worked for the IRS since 1986 and is the agency's spokesman for Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.
