Tucson is getting its first LongHorn Steakhouse, an outpost of the popular Florida-based chain that has several Phoenix-area locations.

The opening is months away. LongHorn's parent company, Darden Restaurants, signed a long-term lease last month for a 62,796-square-foot parcel at 5725 E. Broadway, where it will build a 6,200-square-foot restaurant, company officials confirmed.

First it must raze a retail center now sitting on the property. No timelines have been released, but LongHorn Steakhouse officials said Friday that they anticipate opening in early 2014.

Darden Restaurants also owns Olive Garden and Red Lobster and has more than 2,100 restaurants worldwide through its subsidiaries.
