El Rio Health Center hires Cruz, promotes Rivera

El Rio Community Health Center has named Miguel A. Cruz marketing director for the health center and the El Rio Health Center Foundation.

The foundation also announced the promotion of Rachel Rivera to major gifts officer.

Cruz has more than 25 years of international management and marketing experience, including positions as director of international eradication programs for the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization; director of international operations for Omnium Worldwide; and Hispanic marketing manager for the former Tucson Newspapers.

He also ran his own consultancy specializing in multicultural communications.

Rivera has been the development associate at El Rio for the past two years and has worked for several other non-profits in Tucson.

A graduate of California State University in Sacramento, she chairs the Young Leadership Campaign of the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Bank of Tucson employs Simmonds and Soto

Bank of Tucson has named Keith Simmonds vice president for SBA lending and hired Bert Soto as compliance officer.

Simmonds, most previously a senior loan officer with Goldwater Bank in Scottsdale, started his banking career in 1972 in operations with Wells Fargo, later moving into lending.

He worked at several banking institutions in the San Diego market and joined Valley Independent Bank in El Centro, Calif., in 1988, in positions including regional vice president and loan manager. In 2002, Simmonds joined Yuma Community Bank as chief credit officer until the sale of the bank in 2009, when he joined West Valley National Bank in Phoenix as chief credit officer. He joined Goldwater Bank in April 2010.

Soto has worked in the banking and financial service industry for 30 years, most recently spending nine years as a compliance officer and internal auditor for Tucson Federal Credit Union.

He previously worked for the former First Interstate Bank, InterWest Bank of Arizona/Arizona Bank and Chase, in various positions including teller, collector, loan officer, customer service and branch manager and auditor.
