Rillito outdoor market under construction

Construction has begun on a permanent outdoor marketplace at Pima County’s Rillito Regional Park, 4502 N. First Ave.

Pima County is building a 12-foot wide paved path, about 600 feet long, with three 110-foot-long ramadas to shade shoppers. Vendors will set up in the gravel areas along the paved pathway. A restroom is also being constructed.

The marketplace, which will be used by Heirloom Farmers Markets from 8 a.m. to noon on Sundays, is in the southeast corner of the park, next to The Loop shared-use path.

Construction is expected to be completed by mid-October.

Longtime McDonald’s reborn adjacent to UA

A new McDonald’s restaurant has opened at an old location near the University of Arizona.

The restaurant operated at 1711 E. Speedway, near the corner of North Campbell Avenue, since 1967 before it was closed and razed to make way for a new building at the same address.

The McDonald’s opened Monday after a four-month construction project and will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The new interior features natural finishes in the lobby and re-engineered seating; the drive-through accommodates side-by-side, two-lane ordering.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held next Monday, and grand-opening weekend festivities will continue with giveaways and an appearance by Ronald McDonald on Saturday.
