Miramonte Homes to build in Flagstaff

Tucson-based homebuilder Miramonte Homes is entering the Flagstaff market with plans to build in three housing developments.

Miramonte said it has begun to sell homes at Forest Springs in its first-phase, 30-lot development, with plans to develop 80 more.

The company said that within 60 days, it plans to break ground at Presidio at the Pines, a 200-lot community of single-family homes and townhomes. Last year, Miramonte bought up most of the assets of the original Presidio developer, which had filed for bankruptcy.

Miramonte said it also is teaming up with The True Life Cos to build 30 new homes in the Deer Creek neighborhood of the Pine Canyon golf community.

Bankruptcies rose in March, as expected

Arizona bankruptcies bumped up in March as they typically do for tax reasons, but the long-term picture continues to point to lower filings, The Arizona Republic reports. Individuals typically can keep tax-refund money they receive prior to a bankruptcy filing.

For all of Arizona, the 2,093 filings in March were 25 percent fewer than the March 2012 level, though they marked the highest total so far this year.

Gas prices keep edging down

Gas prices continue to drop in Arizona and nationwide, according to the latest figure from AAA Arizona.

This week, the statewide average dropped more than 2 cents to $3.66 per gallon of regular gas. Nationally, prices shed nearly a penny to $3.64 per gallon.

Tucson and Scottsdale hold the low and high state fuel averages at $3.43 and $3.80 per gallon, respectively, AAA said.
