Xerocraft fundraising on Kickstarter

Xerocraft Hackerspace, a Tucson group that supports tech-minded tinkerers with collaborative workspace, equipment and classes, has launched a crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter.

Xerocraft, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is trying to raise $3,000 by mid-August for materials to finish renovation of its new digs, the Steinfeld Warehouse at 101 W. Sixth St. As of Wednesday, the group had pledges totaling about $1,400 from 26 Kickstarter backers.

Xerocraft is part of the nascent Downtown Innovation District, along with several existing and planned collaborative workspaces. To learn more about Xerocraft or to reach its Kickstarter page, go to www.xerocraft.org

Apartment owner faces fine over AC

PHOENIX - A Phoenix apartment owner is facing fines for not providing adequate air conditioning to tenants last July.

A Phoenix Municipal Court hearing officer found the owner of Woodbridge Apartments guilty of 49 civil citations. A subsidiary of a Los Angeles real estate company bought the complex in 2011 in a foreclosure sale. The owner faces a fine of up to $2,500 for each of the violations at sentencing scheduled for Aug. 19.
