Dollar General opening new store

The discount retail chain Dollar General is opening a new store at 3130 S. Kinney Road at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The first 50 shoppers at the store will receive a $10 gift card, and the first 200 shoppers will get a tote bag, among other giveaways.

The store is approximately 7,200 square feet and will carry between 10,000 and 12,000 items.

Dollar General stores carry a variety of national name brands and private brands of food, housewares, seasonal items, cleaning supplies, basic apparel, and health and beauty products.

Each Dollar General store hires between six and 10 employees on average.

The new store does not currently have a liquor or tobacco license.

Holiday weekend cost of gas at 3-year low

Arizona gasoline prices at the pump this Memorial Day holiday weekend will be at their lowest level for the holiday in three years.

The average statewide price for regular gas on Thursday was $3.45 a gallon, according to AAA Arizona. That's up by less than a penny from last week.

This week's national average is $3.66 per gallon, an increase of nearly 6 cents from last week.

Tucson has the lowest average gasoline price in Arizona at $3.18 a gallon, while Flagstaff has the highest at $3.67.
