Volunteers to gather abandoned carts

Volunteers will pick up abandoned shopping carts from streets and washes in the southwest-side Midvale Park Neighborhood from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Pima County Supervisor Richard Elías' office said in a news release: "The cleanup is the beginning of a larger discussion about how Pima County and the city of Tucson will mitigate cart blight, encourage retailers to track their property more effectively, and educate consumers about their cart use."

The volunteer effort is co-hosted by Service Employees International Union Local 48 and United Food and Commercial Workers Local 99.
