Mexican-wolf reintroduction began in 1998, with the release of 13 wolves into the Blue Range Primitive Area in Eastern Arizona. The goal was 100 wild wolves, but after federal release of 92 wild wolves and spending of $20 million, the wild population has never reached 60.
