Conductor László Veres guides a rehearsal of the Arizona Symphonic Winds. He canceled the volunteer group's March 23 concert at Catalina Foothills High School.

Twenty-four hours after undergoing surgery to insert a pacemaker, Arizona Symphonic Winds Conductor László Veres is recovering at home.

In an email today, Veres said the doctors were happy with the way the surgery Wednesday at Tucson Medical Center went and sent him home.

"Now, I have to be a good boy and follow the directions they gave me for a successful recovery," he said. "If everything goes well I should be ready to go by middle of April to get ready for the Udall and Pops concerts."

Veres leads the volunteer winds in a series of outdoor concerts at Udall Park. He also conducts the professional Tucson Pops Orchestra in a spring series at Reid Park. Both kick off around late May.
