Five days, eight shows.
That pretty much sums up the week ahead for Sons of Orpheus, one of Tucson's pre-eminent male choirs.
Beginning with its holiday concert in Green Valley on Sunday, the group will perform eight shows in five days through next Thursday.
But choir members will be ready; they always are. This time of year is their Super Bowl - the grand finale of their year and the highlight of their season. They get to shine at what they do best: big, glorious choral works that showcase their vocal tenacity and prowess.
And they do it singing music that has become almost their calling card - sacred and traditional holiday works.
Here's the schedule for this week's marathon:
• Holiday concert: 7 p.m. Friday at Green Valley's Community Performing Arts Center, 1250 W. Continental Road. $15 in advance at www.performingartscenter.org; $18 at the door.
• Holiday concert: 3 p.m. Sunday with the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus at SaddleBrooke's DesertView Performing Arts Center, 39900 S. Clubhouse Drive. $35 in advance at tickets.saddlebrooketwo.com, $40 at the door.
• 16th Annual Christmas Concerts at San Xavier Mission with the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus: 6 and 8 p.m. Tuesday through next Thursday at Mission San Xavier del Bac, 1950 W. San Xavier Road, off Interstate 19. All of those shows are sold out.
