R. Clark Jewett believes music is a sort of magic.

Especially musical theater.

"Music can add so much to a story," says the writer, producer and director of "The List: A Musical," playing this weekend at the Fox Tucson Theatre.

"An actor can only be so big," he adds. "But if you really want to take an audience over, music can do that. If you say 'I'm so angry I could spit' and add music with it, people can understand the anger."

Jewett, who received his degree in music composition last year, plans to attend graduate school in the fall. In the meantime, he has pulled old friends and new together to stage "The List," a musical comedy about twentysomethings applying for jobs on Cragislist, an online classified ad service.

Performances are slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Fox, 17 W. Congress St. Tickets are $10 at 547-3040 or foxtucsontheatre.ticketforce.com
