Tucson starts its weekends early downtown with a slew of hopping Thursday nights dance parties that are attracting thousands.

On any given Thursday, you can stroll downtown along Congress Street and experience dance music in all its glory, from old-school hip-hop to straight-ahead house music.

In the bar and on the rooftop of Tucson's newest hot spot, The Playground, 278 E. Congress St., Table Manners spins old-school hip-hop. Across the street at Club Congress, 311 E. Congress St., the Opti Club turns up contemporary house music and electronica with a rotating cast of guest DJs. On a recent Thursday, more than 1,000 people filled the lobby, club and Tap Room and spilled out into the hotel's parking lot.

Foundation Thursdays at V, 9 E. Congress St., thumps with house music from local DJs, including Andrew James, Brian Hunt and Dj Blank.

Downtown isn't the only place that's getting its Thursday party on. At Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, 7000 N. Resort Drive, you can Crash the Pool from 2 to 6 p.m. on the third Sunday of the month through September with DJ Corbin Dooley.

"We've creative sort of a daytime club," said Dooley, who hosted the first poolside party in April.

He describes the music mix as "electric feel" with varied genres that incorporate electronica, from rock to classical to the Beach Boys.
