Spay or neuter your puppy or kitten during June at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona and pay just $20. The offer is good for any puppy or kitten younger than 6 months.
“While we think they are still babies, kittens as young as 4 months and puppies as young as 5 months are still old enough to get pregnant and have their first litter just two months later,” says Samantha Esquivel, a shelter spokeswoman said in a statement released Tuesday.
The offer is possible through a grant from PetSmart Charities.
Esquivel says some pet parents may worry that their pet is too young for this procedure. But spaying and neutering is safe and easy for kittens and puppies as young as 8 to 10 weeks old, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. In fact, as part of its mission to help pets and the people who love them, the Humane Society of Southern Arizona performs about 1,200 spay/neuter surgeries every month, many on pediatric patients.
Pet parents who wish to take advantage of the $20 special rate offer must mention the “Precious, Not Parents” campaign when they call to schedule their appointment. The shelter has a limited number of surgeries available. Visit hssaz.org or call 881-0321 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
