Pia Toscano, Jordin Sparks and Jennifer Hudson will headline “Divas in the Desert,” the American Cancer Society's 2013 gala Friday night at The Westin La Paloma Resort.

The event is sponsored by former University of Arizona Wildcats basketball player ( 1986-90) and Grammy-winning record producer/songwriter Harvey Mason Jr. and his wife, Jeannine. Mason works with all three singers including with Hudson on her 2008 Grammy-winning eponymous album.

Toscano — sister of Tucson Symphony Orchestra principal timpanist Kimberly Toscano — Sparks and Hudson are all alumni of “American Idol.” Sparks won the title in season six in 2007; Hudson was a season three finalist who finished seventh; Toscano, predicted by many to win the crown in 2011’s season 10, finished ninth.

Friday’s benefit begins at 6 p.m. at La Paloma, 3800 E. Sunrise Drive, and includes an auction. Tickets, at $250 apiece, are sold out. Organizers said 1,150 people are expected to attend.
