Just experienced the most surreal moment of the 2014 Country Thunder Festival.

Colt Ford, opening for headliner Jason Aldean, covered Eminem’s rap hit “Lose Yourself” then segued into the most redneck song in his arsenal, “No Trash in My Trailer.”

Ford was hands-down the most intriguing artist on the festival’s final day. He’s Southern rock with hip-hop tendencies and strong country accents. His music plays to a demographic that doesn’t quite buy into the trad country style but doesn’t altogether want to abandon the soaring fiddles and country twang.

Ford wraps his American-proud rockers in just enough country elements to fit into the genre without selling out to some perceived notion of pop country.

Which was just fine for the tens of thousands of fans filling Canyon Moon Ranch Sunday.

Next up: Jason Aldean to put the exclamation point on what organizers said is a record—breaking festival.
