The styles strutting across the stage tonight at Pima Community College’s seventh spring fashion show might remind you of something.

The fashion design students behind the scenes drew inspiration from Hollywood this year.

On this red-carpet night, students will see the culmination of their work in the program with the Lights! Camera! Fashion! show.

“You think about it, and fashion is an art, and movies can be inspiration,” said Yekatherina Bruner, instructor of a fashion show and event-planning class. “Anything around the students can be inspiration to create garments.”

The approximately 90 outfits in the show are based on film genres — romance, comedy, thriller, action, science fiction and animation.

Romance, for example, might inspire natural, flirtatious and simple styles.

A thriller may spawn a look with smoky eyes, a black dress and less color.

Many students drawing from action films designed something suitable for “The Hunger Games,” letting the movie influence the stitches, shapes and lines of their garments.

Student designers from Flowing Wells High School used recycled materials and drew from the playfulness of animated films for their fashions.

“There are everyday clothes, gowns and some costumes as well. Most of those are in the sci-fi section," Bruner said. “There’s a little bit of everything.”
