With less than 56 hours left to go in his Kickstarter campaign, local filmmaker Daniel Buckley has reached out to the Facebook community to help him get his documentary on mariachi music in Tucson off the ground.

Buckley, a journalist in town for more than three decades, has raised more than $7,000, but won’t get any of it unless he hits his $15,000 goal.

The documentary, due out in 2014, will examine the rise of mariachi music and education in Tucson and how it has affected and empowered generations of residents.

“This seed money is a very small portion of the ultimate film budget, but like an actual seed, it is crucial to the growth that will come,” Buckley said on his Facebook page.

Information on the documentary and how to donate can be found here.
