McDonald's is giving teachers a free Extra Value Meal on Tuesday, the official Teacher Appreciation Day.

Which is good news for students: it means that the school year is coming down to the final stretch.

Teacher Appreciation Day falls on the Tuesday of Teacher Appreciation week, which falls in the first full week of May. That would be next week. And most Tucson area schools break for the summer on May 22, which means there are four more weeks of tests, quizzes, book reports, essays, math problems, science experiments and putting up with the annoying kid sitting in front of you before you can start singing "School's Out For Summer" and have it mean something.

Hang in there.

Teachers, here's what you need to know to snag a free Big Mac and fries — or whatever meal you want.

• Show your school ID at your local McDonald's between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday.

• Order an Extra Value Meal.

• Enjoy.

The offer is good for all teachers — from preschool to college — so long as you have an ID.

For those teachers who are early risers, you could win free coffee for the summer if you are among the first 100 teachers to stop into your local McDonald's restaurant on Tuesday. The restaurants are giving away 100 McCafé Beverage Keytags good for a daily small McCafé drink through Aug. 31.

Last year Arizona McDonald's restaurants gave out 32,000 Teacher Appreciation Day meals, McDonald's officials said.
