After months of preparation, The Coronet opened Sunday in the Coronado Hotel Apartments at 402 E. Ninth Street, just north of the Fourth Avenue underpass.

The restaurant is under the direction of Sally Kane and her partner Gregor Kretschmann.

Both have experience in the food service industry. Kane's father owned and operated The Tack Room.

Her career, prior to The Coronet, was in restoring historic homes.

The initial hope was to take over the historic Samaniego House, at 222 S. Church Ave. When a lease agreement couldn't be worked out, the Coronado Hotel Apartments served as the next best option.

"I was attracted to that part of Fourth Avenue," Kane said. "It is the gateway to downtown. I feel like we are in the middle of it all. We are getting downtown business men, kids from the university, the hip vibe from Fourth Avenue."

The restaurant serves an eclectic menu that includes Korean bibimbap, kale salad and a ploughman's platter.
