Country singer Randy Travis has canceled his Aug. 26 concert at Fox Tucson Theatre.

Fox Tucson Executive Director Craig Sumberg confirmed the cancellation Thursday afternoon after saying earlier in the day tour promoters had not yet contacted him about the stop here.

Travis had already canceled most of his dates through August  as the country singer recovers from congestive heart failure and a subsequent stroke.

Travis on Thursday was in critical condition at a Texas hospital after suffering a stroke and having  brain surgery on Wednesday.

He was admitted to a Texas hospital Sunday with a respiratory virus that doctors said led to congestive heart failure. Doctors implanted a pumping device in his heart and Travis’s condition had stabilized by Wednesday afternoon. But later that day he suffered the stroke.

Doctors performed surgery that night to relieve pressure on his brain, according to his publicist Kirt Webster, speaking Wednesday morning from the Texas hospital.

Travis has been a regular on Tucson stages for several years.  He was last here in 2011 for a show at Desert Diamond Casino.  In 2009, he was part of the UApresents  season at Centennial Hall.
