The Sahuarita barbecue team of Tracey Nahrwold and Tracy Santa Cruz will be among the competitors at Saturday's annual Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour competition.

This is the second year Nahrwold and Santa Cruz — who compete under the name Fork U BBQ — will compete in the tour's Tucson stop. The tour is the largest and richest tournament in the history of competition barbecue with more than 700 teams in 31 competitions around the country vying for a total of $500,000 in prize money.

Saturday's competition will be held at Tucson's only Sam's Club warehouse, 4701 N. Stone Ave., near Tucson Mall. All-Star Pitmaster Troy Black will moderate and offer backyard barbecue tips while a certified panel of judges will determine the winners.

But if you're not planning to behind the smoker in the parking lot Saturday, you can still join the fun. And for lovers of the end result of 'cue — the tasty, smoky bites of beef and pork heaven — Saturday is a chance to sample nirvana on a fork. They will be handing out samples, and anyone who's spent their lunch hour cruising Sam's Club for free samples, you know the routine. Admission is free.
