Tucson Originals has canceled the 2013 Taste of Tucson, the opening event in the group’s annual Culinary Festival in October.
The Originals executive committee on Monday decided to kill the event and put their support behind the World Margarita Championship, which marks its eighth anniversary on Oct. 25.
Tucson Originals Executive Director Colette Landeen said the group was unable to get enough sponsors to support the event.
The Tucson Culinary Festival has actually not been a festival for a couple years. When it was started, the event stretched over a four-day weekend, but the Originals realized that it was putting a burden on their member restaurants, which hosted the events.
“We just broke it apart because it was better on our members,” Landeen said.
Landeen said the Originals are getting away from calling the event a festival and instead have renamed it Tucson Culinary Events. The first festival was held in 2002.
