Village Inn hopes to open its newest Tucson area restaurant in October, this one on the same corner in the Cortaro Road/Interstate 10 corridor that once was a car lot.

Construction got underway two weeks ago at 5955 W. Arizona Pavilions Drive, where Aufmuth Motors operated a small used car lot from 2011 to 2013.

The restaurant, part of the American Blue Ribbon Holdings chain based in Nashville, Tennessee, will seat about 155 diners and is expected to open Oct. 13, said branch manager Mike Muniz.

Village Inn has a long history in Tucson stretching back 40-plus years. It has three locations, 6251 N. Oracle Road, 4245 E. Speedway and 9560 E. 22nd St.

• Meanwhile, $1 from every Village Inn Good Start Sandwich sold now through Sept. 28 will benefit area Boys & Girls Clubs. The sandwich, new to the chain's menu, is made of scrambled eggs topped with hickory-smoked bacon strips, sliced deli ham and American cheese on toast with hash browns on the side.
