Tucsonan Trevor Smith is $5,000 richer and getting lots of attention thanks to his winning the Grand Prize in Galaxy Press' International Illustrators of the Future Contest.

His works will be published in "L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 30," which came out this week.

Smith's detailed drawings bring fantasy and sci-fi to vivid life. Previous winners of the contest — both writers and illustrators — have credited the competition for launching their careers.

He'll be at Barnes & Noble in Foothills Mall, 7325 N. La Cholla Blvd., for a book signing from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
