The little guys owned the first round of our Burger Madness bracket, taking out No. 1 seeds Zinburger, Lindy’s on 4th and The Parish.
Monkey Burger, facing Sam-Witches and Such, 6502 E. Tanque Verde Road, was the only favorite to move on to the Round of 16. Monkey Burger, 5350 E. Broadway, faces Chicago-style eatery Kenney D’s, 8060 E. 22nd St. and 2400 N. Pantano Road, in the next round.
Cody’s Beef ‘n Beans, a 25-year-old affordable steakhouse, 2708 E. Fort Lowell Road in midtown, took down overall favorite Zinburger 643-622 (seeds were based on the restaurants’ number of nominations). Zinburger has two locations, 1865 E. River Road and 6390 E. Grant Road
Next up for Cody’s is Fini’s Landing, a popular seafood restaurant in Catalina Foothills.
Northwest-side upstart Grumpy’s Grill, 2960 W. Ina Road, took down Lindy’s on 4th, 431 N. Fourth Ave., which has appeared on the Food Network twice in the last four years.
Grumpy’s will have to face Lindy’s Fourth Avenue neighbor Surly Wench Pub, 424 N. Fourth Ave., which took out Dirtbag’s Bar and Grill, 1800 E. Speedway, in a college-bar battle.
The Parish, 6453 N. Oracle Road, had its burger championship dreams crushed by sports bar Trident Grill, 2033 E. Speedway, which took the matchup by only four votes. Trident will face a Tucson classic with a new name: Sullivan’s Eatery & Creamery, the former Swenson’s, 6444 N. Oracle Road.
