Fini's Landing, a nautical-themed bar and restaurant, plans to open today in the Foothills.

The restaurant - with a motto of "flip flops, fish tacos and fun" - joins a zip code filled with upscale eateries.

"The whole point is to have a casual offering for people up here, but we've done it with quality," said Scott Mencke, who owns Fini's with his partner, Doug "Fini" Finical.

"It's a real comfortable, intimate experience. From almost anywhere you sit in the bar you have a full panoramic view of the Catalinas."

The pair - who were managers at The Hut until last September - had hoped to open last December, but construction delays pushed the date back, Mencke said.

The centerpiece of the 2,000-square-foot restaurant is a handcrafted wooden replica of a boat that serves as the bar.

The restaurant will be open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. today and Friday and from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily beginning Saturday.

For the first week Fini's will serve a limited menu of appetizers and fish tacos while it gets ready to roll out a full menu of sandwiches, salads, wings, soups and tacos.

Appetizers, many of them made from seafood, will run from $6 to $14, with sandwiches from $8 to $12.

Fini's Landing is located in the former Laroccas Classic Italian Cuisine, 5689 N. Swan Road, near East Sunrise Drive.
