Sbarro pizzeria plans 2nd spot at Tucson Mall

Sbarro pizzeria will open a second Tucson location of the New York-based pizza chain in August.

The restaurant should open near the food court of Tucson Mall by mid-August, said General Manager Nathaniel Moeyken.

It will be the second outpost of Sbarro, but the first for the parent company. The Foothills Mall restaurant, which opened a few years ago, is owned by a franchisee who was reluctant to open additional locations in Tucson, said Moeyken.

"We feel that the Tucson market has a lot of room for Sbarro," Moeyken said. "Obviously, we would not put a corporate store in a city unless we wanted to have multiple locations."

Moeyken said 25 people will be employed at the Tucson Mall location, 4500 N. Oracle Road.

Sbarro got its start in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1956 and now has more than 1,000 locations in the U.S. and abroad.
