Lovin’ Spoonfuls Vegetarian Restaurant, Urban Fresh, Green Heart Bakery and Ashley Welsh, who bakes for the Rincon Market, are among the culinary contributors volunteering treats for the 2014 Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale.

Tucson’s version of the event takes place 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Healthy You Network Resource Center, 3913 E. Pima St. There is additional parking behind the center.

“We’ll have everything from cookies to truffles to breads, cupcakes and muffins,” said Jamie Roach, who volunteers with the Healthy You Network, a nonprofit formed just a few years ago with the goal of educating Southern Arizonans about the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle.

Bake sale proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, which will also bring adoptable dogs to the event.

Last year’s local bake sale raised more than $4,000 for the Humane Society and baked goods sold out early, Roach said. “Although we have a lot of people baking/donating baked goods, we will probably sell out again,” she said in an email.

The Healthy You Network offers a variety of other activities, including potlucks, cooking classes and movie nights. It also holds symposiums a couple times a year with nationally known speakers.

The next one, called Your Food, Your Health, takes place May 3-4 at the Berger Center for the Performing Arts, 1200 W. Speedway. Tickets are $75 per day.
