Big Blues Show brings top talent to Fox

A tribute to blues greats Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf will bring several high profile musicians to the Fox Tucson Theatre Friday.

Bob Margolin, Kim Wilson, Jody Williams and harmonica legend James Cotton will play as part of the performance dubbed "Blues At The Crossroads 2."

All four musicians were involved with either Wolf or Waters or both at one point or another.

Williams, 78, was a highly regarded and influential session guitarist in Chicago during the 1950s.

Cotton, 77, is the other elder of the group and got his start performing with Wolf before recording his first solo projects with Sun Records in Memphis, Tenn.

The musicians will be backed by The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20-$49 through the Fox box office, 547-3040.

Just announced

Mexican rock outfit Café Tacvba is swinging into the Rialto Theatre April 17 for an 8 p.m. show.

Café Tacvba - pronounced Café Tacuba - rose out of Mexico City's burgeoning 1990s rock en español movement that produced such notables as Los Rodríguez and Héroes del Silencio. These bands helped bridge the gap between American and Spanish rock and gained respect from MTV and some mainstream media that started embracing the merits of rock music in a language other than English.

Café Tacvba's music morphed from its garage band playful and whimsical fusion of the early 1990s to a more mature and experimental music today.

The band has sold platinum at home and in the States but took five years off recording in the mid-2000s before returning last year with "El Objeto Antes Llamado Disco" and the Latin chart-topping single "De Este Lado del Camino."

Tickets are $40 in advance at rialtotheatre.com or by calling 740-1000; or $45 at the door.
