The longer singer-songwriter Jessica Fichot spends on the road, the more she learns about cars, specifically minivans. The Los Angeles-based musician, who will play a gig with her band at La Cocina, 201 N. Court Ave., Friday night, rents a vehicle every time she goes on tour. Compacts won't do. Her band travels primarily as a quartet, but sometimes with a drummer when it's in the budget. Either way, the upright bass needs the extra room. At this point, she has driven in just about every large vehicle available. "We are starting to learn the different models," Fichot said in a phone interview Tuesday. "We think we like the Chrysler Town & Country the best." Fichot will bring tracks from her latest album, "Le Secret," when she plays La Cocina on Friday. The group will perform sans drummer, but with a repertoire of songs that spans several languages, including French, Spanish and Chinese. The show starts at 10 p.m. Admission is $5.
