Some people blame global warming for the recent trend of Tucson getting hotter and hotter earlier and earlier in the year. Others just blame the TMC Meet Me Downtown 5K Night Run and Walk.

Last year, Tucson reached 104 degrees the day of the TMC Meet Me Downtown 5K Night Run and Walk — which was the hottest day of the year up until that point. In fact, for seven years, Meet Me Downtown has coincided with the hottest day of the year. This year, the race has moved up a week to May 31. However, looking at the long-term weather trends, it may once again be the hottest night of the year thus far. Sorry about that.

Randy and Tia Accetta are longtime runners and the parents of two young children. Tia is a Road Runners Club of America certified coach. She coaches individuals, the Sam Hughes Elementary School team, the Tucson Tri-Girls and the Workout Group, the longest-running training group in Tucson. Her marathon best is 2:48:05. As the director of coaching education for the RRCA, Randy certifies running coaches around the country. He is the producer of a number of running events, including TMC Meet Me Downtown 5K.
