Last week's results

The latest round of the Star's Pizza Madness contest favored those in Tucson's premier pizza-and-beer district.

In fact, three of the four restaurants remaining on the left half of our bracket call the UA's campus-area home.

Magpies Gourmet Pizza, located on Fourth Avenue, rallied to knock off Scordato's Pizzeria, the pride of the Foothills. After the first day of voting, the two restaurants were tied at 84 votes apiece. By Sunday night, Magpies had pulled out the win, 268-259.

Magpies will face Zona 78 in the El-eat Eight (Anyone? No?). Zona 78 was behind early in the week but came back to beat Mario's Pizza, 364-200.

Michael Thompson posted in the comment section: "Go to Zona 78, order the 'Pizza Boy,' and I guarantee you will never vote for anyone else. Mario's is delicious, don't get me wrong, but Zona 78 is in a whole different class."

Two more UA-area favorites, Frog and Firkin and 1702, fought it out in a poll that ended with almost 2,000 votes. Frog prevailed 935-896 and will face Brooklyn next.

Jeff Marquez, in one of 376 comments, posted: "Frog all day ... if it was a beer competition, 1702 hands down, but Frog's pizza is way better!"

Brooklyn Pizza Co., another Fourth Avenue landmark, thumped newcomer Reilly Craft Pizza & Drink, 659-456.
