DON’T MISS

“2013 MTV Video Music Awards” — Television’s least-stuffy awards show returns to New York, where we’re counting on a major outbreak of crazy. Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Taylor Swift will duke it out for the coveted Video of the Year Moonman. That’s an impressive array of stars, but the main reason we’ll be watching is to see what wild costume Lady Gaga dons for her show-opening performance. After all, the meat dress is so 2010. 9 p.m. Sunday, MTV.

OTHER GOOD BETS

TONIGHT In “Silk,” the latest offering from “Masterpiece Mystery!,” two rival barristers (Maxine Peake and Rupert Penry-Jones) compete for the prestigious appointment as Queen’s Counsel. Plenty of tension and intrigue ensue. 8 p.m., PBS.

TONIGHT No throats were actually harmed during the making of “Cutthroat Kitchen.” But there’s plenty of culinary duplicity as competing chefs try to sabotage one another for money. 10 p.m., Food Network.

MONDAY “Get Out Alive With Bear Grylls” wraps up as the three remaining teams face a rainforest during heavy rainfall and Bear chooses a winner. 8 p.m., NBC.

TUESDAY “The March” is a compelling documentary that looks back on the famous 1963 March on Washington for racial equality. The program offers interviews, rare footage and a behind-the-scenes look into the planning of the event, best known for Martin Luther King’s stirring “I Have a Dream” speech. 10 p.m., PBS.

WEDNESDAY On “Only in America With Larry the Cable Guy,” our intrepid host visits central Illinois, where two farm boys are making big bucks harvesting deer urine. Only in America, indeed. 9 p.m., History Channel.

WEDNESDAY Mindy Kaling (“The Mindy Project”) drops by “Top Chef Masters” as the chefs create dishes inspired by her favorite romantic comedies. Then, the cast of “Yo Gabba Gabba!” weighs in on some palate-pleasing meals for children. 10 p.m., Bravo.

THURSDAY In the two-hour season finale of “Motive,” Flynn and Vega (Kristin Lehman, Louis Ferreira) identify a suspect in the death of an executive’s assistant, but there appears to be no motive. Um, so when does “Scandal” return? 7 p.m., ABC.

THURSDAY Poor, poor Los Angeles. First, the city was pulverized by a brutal “Sharknado.” Now, it’s being invaded by prehistoric creatures in the cheese-fest, “Age of Dinosaurs.” At least the Dodgers are having a good season. 9 p.m., Syfy.

FRIDAY Forget the runway, how are your blogging skills? On “America’s Next Top Model,” the contestants are forced to act as fashion correspondents in a challenge led by Perez Hilton. 8 p.m., The CW.

SATURDAY “Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited” continues to mark the 50th anniversary of the fabled sci-fi franchise by looking back at the first 11 Time Lords. Tonight, the spotlight is on the eighth Doctor (played by Paul McGann) as he battles his nemesis, the Master. 11 p.m., BBC America.
