“Rectify” — Aden Young delivers an extraordinary performance in this riveting six-part drama about a man struggling to adjust to freedom after spending nearly 20 years on death row. When Daniel Holden, accused of murdering a teen girl, is released on new DNA evidence, he returns as an outsider to his family, his community and the times. Everything he encounters is basically a puzzle. Moreover, the former prosecutor — now a state senator (Michael O’Neill) — is convinced that he got the right man, which reignites the mystery. 9 p.m., Sundance Channel.

“An Apology to Elephants” is a moving and revelatory documentary that traces our long history with the magnificent creatures and examines the abuse man has inflicted on them. Lily Tomlin narrates. 7 p.m., HBO.
