Live, original theater happens frequently at Etcetera, the late-night arm of Live Theatre Workshop.

It happens over at the University of Arizona, too, where students often write, produce and perform original works through the Studio Series in the School of Theatre, Film & Television.

The two get together this weekend for performances of “Flatland: A Play in 4 Dimensions.”

Actually, these are encore performances — they were originally performed at the UA and audiences packed the theater.

“Flatland” is based on Edwin Abbott’s 1884 satirical novella, “Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions.”

It was adapted by and features UA students Catherine Cosentino, Andrea Head, Rainey Hinrichs, Heather Meza and Cortney Radtke. Simon Ridley takes head writing credits and is the assistant director.

Directing the production are Matt Walley and Angela Horchem. Horchem is artistic director of Etcetera, Walley teaches theater at the UA, and they both are founders of Theatre 3.

Performances are 10:30 p.m. Saturday, 8 p.m. Sunday, and 10:30 p.m. Dec. 13 and 14. Tickets are $10 at the door. Live Theatre is at 5317 E. Speedway. 327-4242.
