Bring the family to holiday shows in the Flandrau Science Center’s full dome planetarium theater. Cherish the traditions of the season in the holiday classic “Season of Light,” and feel your spirits rise in the festive laser music show “Laser Holidays” featuring favorite songs of the season.

Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium’s two seasonal shows start just in time for the holidays—the holiday show schedule begins the day after Thanksgiving on Friday Nov. 24 and runs through the first week of January.

There will be 2 p.m. holiday shows every weekday starting on Dec.12. All the shows are presented in the renovated Eos Foundation Planetarium Theater for a comfortable, full-dome experience.

Season of Light

A holiday classic, now in full-dome format, this show explores the many festivals of light (including Christmas and Hanukkah) that celebrate the spirit of renewal around the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year. Full of popular holiday music, you’ll learn the origins of today’s Christmas songs and customs. And you’ll discover how the dark days of winter have inspired luminous festival traditions in other times and cultures, and how all of those traditions connect back to astronomy. Noah Adams from National Public Radio narrates the show. Shipherd Reed, Flandrau’s associate director of communications, said many families return to see “Season” year after year, drawn by the show’s old-fashioned charm and substance.

Laser Holidays

Ring in the season with the “Laser Holidays” show, full of favorite Christmas and seasonal songs—from time-honored classics like “The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole, to snappy favorites like “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey. Reed says this show has something for everyone.

On the day after Thanksgiving (the first day of the Holiday Show season), Friday, Nov.24, Flandrau will schedule a full day of shows.
