Individual First Aid Kit for TPD officers

Tucson Police Department officer Anthony Gutierrez talks about having to use his first aid kit while on duty during an interview at the Patrick J Hardesty Midtown Police Substation, 1100 S Alvernon Way. Gutierrez was given instruction on how to use the new individual first aid kit or IFAK that is now being distributed to TPD officers. The new kits contain a combat gauze, compression gauze, an Olaes modular band, two tourniquets, scissors duct tape, gloves, and two halo chest seals. For quite some time TPD vehicles have been equipped with trauma kits that were to be used to care for critically injured officers. As medical technology has improved TPD has seen a need to improve first responder trauma care with the new IFAK, which is designed to bridge the gap between the beginning trauma and the arrival of medical help from the Tucson Fire Department. The photo was taken on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, in Tucson, Ariz.
