“Life and Dreams of the Perla Ravine”

Martha Dicochea Morachis and her grand-daughter, Itzel Vizcarra, 10, work together to repaint a mural titled “Vida y Sueños de la Cañada Perla,” or “Life and Dreams of the Perla Ravine,” was originally completed in 2005 on a section of the border wall in Nogales, Sonora. Morachis is the sister of one of the original artists, Alberto Morackis. The border wall had to be taken down in 2011, when the Department of Homeland Security built a taller wall. The panels were salvaged and placed on a wall within the city of Nogales, Mexico. On Saturday April 19, 2014 they were repainted by volunteers. Photo by: Mamta Popat / Arizona Daily Star
