Carol Ann Hicks Morgan
passed away quietly and unexpectedly in her sleep on July 1, 2013. She was 42 years old. Carol was born in Tucson, Arizona, on June 7, 1971, to Carol and John Hicks. Carol was an exceptional student at the top of her class throughout her life. She was graduated from Canyon del Oro High School in 1988, where she was active in many organizations, including Academic Decathlon, Thespian Society and National Honor Society. She had roles in many high school and later local community theater productions. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Brigham Young University in 1992. She went on to receive a Master of Arts in Linguistics from Stanford University in 1993. A few weeks after receiving her degree at Stanford, Carol married Slade Morgan, the love of her life, in the Mesa, Arizona, temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 25, 1993. Carol had a lifelong love of learning, and was a passionate and spirited debater throughout her life. She was a devoted student of European history and especially the Tudor era of English history. She was an accomplished flutist and occasionally did musical arrangements for church and school events. She loved to travel and she enjoyed writing online in various venues. She served her church and others throughout her life. Her favorite calling was as a stake communications specialist, and she wrote numerous articles for local newspapers and for The LDS Church News. Carol is survived by her parents, John and Carol Hicks of Tucson, Arizona; husband, Slade, of Forest Grove, Oregon; her five children: Drake, 17; Archer, 15; Chase, 15; Sadie, 12 and Quincy, 3. She is the fifth of six siblings, all of whom survive her: Donna, 58; Bill, 56; Sandra, 52; Robert, 50 and John, 39.
